Cubs, White Sox Post Victories

Yesterday Against Brewers, Twins

Cubs 6 Brewers 5

The Cubs were trailing 5-3 behind the Brewers yesterday after seven innings but came back to score a run in the eighth inning and two runs in the ninth to post a 6-5 win. Carlos Zambrano pitched six innings while allowing three runs and striking out seven.  Kosuke Fukudome, Alfonso Soriano and Aramis Ramirez homered for the Cubs.

Carlos Marmol closed out the game with his first save of the season. Lou Piniella may wind up letting Marmol have  more save opportunities since Kevin Gregg has not pitched well in the closing role.

White Sox 8 Twins 0

The White Sox put their hitting and pitching together yesterday as Bartolo Colon 1-0 pitched six scoreless innings while allowing three hits in the 8-0 win over the Twins. The Twins could manage to muster six singles off of White Sox pitching. The game showed that White Sox have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. It is an accomplishment when the fifth starter pitches the White Sox to a shutout win with three scoreless innings posted by the bullpen.

After going through the rotation the first time the White Sox starters have allowed only eight runs in five starts. Brent Lillibridge is the only White Sox position player without a hit this season.

  1. Sure hated to see this, “C.C. Sabathia pitched 7 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball as the Yankees defeated the Royals 6-1.” I wanted to see Take the Money and Run Sabathia lose every game this year. Knowing that isn’t possible I would like to see him lose more than he wins.

It will be interesting to see how he does against teams like the Red Sox and Rays. Royals aren’t scoring against anyone and are last in majors in runs scored with 8 runs scored in 5 games. The Blue Jays are the best with 42 in 6 games.
