Manny Ramirez Took Performance Enhancers

Manny Ramirez will be suspended for 50 games after he tested positive for performance enhancers. The suspension should be announced later today according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to the article Jose Canseco has said he was 90 percent sure Ramirez is on the list of 103 players who used performance enhancers during the 2003 season.

The Dodgers still have the makings of a good team with the emergence of Andre Ethier this season who is among the top RBI producers in the NL this season. However Manny cannot be replaced with Juan Pierre as his backup.

Minor leaguer Xavier Paul should be called up later today to replace Ramirez on the roster.

This development shows that the steroids problem is not under control at the major league level.

It opens the question of if other players are also using today. Now we will have to question how many of the home runs Ramirez  hit were with the help of performance enhancers.

When Ramirez returns in July it will be interesting to see if he gets the reception that Rafael Palmeiro received after returning from his suspension.

It will be interesting to see what kind of twist Bud Selig will use if he makes a statement since he supposedly had the steroids problem under control.

  1. Sad day for Baseball as a whole and especially Dodger fans. If you’re a Giants fan or an NL West rival you’re stoked. If you have him on your fantasy team you’re pissed!

Manny Ramirez stock has already plummeted nearly 30% today.

Scott Boras’, Joe Torre’s, and Frank McCourts’ headaches must be epic right now…

  2. His salary took a hit today too losing almost 30 percent of it for 2009.

  3. As far as baseball is concerned, it is business as usual.

  4. It cost him about $7 million in salary but when he has already made close to $200 million he won’t miss it that much.
